NBCFDC Education Loan Scheme

Subsidised education loan for OBC students pursuing professional, technical, or vocational courses — up to ₹15 lakh (India) or ₹20 lakh (abroad) at 3.5–4% interest with a 5-year moratorium.

About this scheme

The National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC), a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, provides subsidised education loans to students from Other Backward Classes (OBC) to pursue professional, technical, and vocational education at graduate level and above. NBCFDC funds up to 90% of course expenditure for studies in India (maximum ₹15 lakh) and up to 85% for studies abroad (maximum ₹20 lakh). The remaining balance is borne by the student or the State Channelizing Agency (SCA). The loan carries a highly concessional interest rate — 4% per annum for male students and 3.5% per annum for female students. A moratorium period of 5 years is provided from the date of disbursement, after which the loan is repayable over 10 years. Pre-payment is allowed at any time after commencement of repayment with no pre-closure charges. Expenses covered include admission and tuition fees, books, stationery and instruments, examination fees, laboratory and library fees, boarding and lodging, insurance premium during the loan period, and travel expenses for studies abroad. Applications can be submitted online through the PM-SURAJ Portal (pmsuraj.dosje.gov.in) or through NBCFDC's own portal (nbcfdc.gov.in). Offline applications can be made through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs), Public Sector Banks, or Regional Rural Banks empanelled with NBCFDC. A toll-free helpline (1800-102-3399) is available for queries.
