About this scheme
The Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme, launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC), provides financial support to students from North Eastern states pursuing undergraduate education at recognised colleges and universities outside the North Eastern Region. The scheme aims to bridge educational opportunities and encourage NE students to experience education in other parts of India. The scholarship amount ranges from ₹5,400 to ₹7,800 per month depending on the course, disbursed through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Eligibility
- Residence: Permanent resident (domicile) of one of the eight North Eastern states (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, or Tripura)
- Education level: Enrolled in the first year of a full-time undergraduate course at a college or university outside the North Eastern Region
- Annual family income: Below ₹4,50,000 per annum from all sources
- Admission mode: Must have obtained admission on merit (not under management or NRI quota)
